Helping Transform Lives by Providing Hope and Healing.

At Advancing Sight Network, we are honored to work hand-in-hand with hospitals and healthcare professionals to support the gift of sight through eye donation. Together, we help transform lives by providing hope and healing to those affected by blindness and visual impairment.

Committed to Compassionate Care.

Our mission is rooted in compassion—both for the generous individuals who give the gift of sight and for the families who support that decision. We are committed to working closely with hospital teams to ensure that every donor is treated with dignity and respect, and that every potential opportunity for donation is fulfilled with care and professionalism.

Our Approach to Hospital Collaboration

To ensure the success of the donation process, we provide:

  • 24/7 support for referrals.
    In Alabama, call: 1-800-423-7811.
    In Louisiana, call: 504-891-3937.
    In Mississippi, call: 1-800-362-6169.
    In Tennessee, call: 877-278-3650.
  • A dedicated Client Relations Team to assist with education, training, and coordination at clientrelations@advancingsight.org.
  • Detailed guidance for eye donor care to preserve tissue integrity.
  • A streamlined referral process to ensure a timely response and eligibility evaluation.
  • Coordination of communication with donor families, handled by experienced referral coordinators.

Conditions of Participation for Organ and Tissue Donation.

Hospitals that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding must comply with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoP). These federal regulations require hospitals to identify and refer all deaths and imminent deaths to the appropriate donation organization promptly, in an effort to increase the number of organs and tissues available for transplant.

We are here to support your facility in meeting these important requirements while promoting a culture of donation. Review the Federal Conditions of Participation for Organ and Tissue Donation.

The Donation Process at a Glance.

  • 1

    Referral

Hospital staff notify us within one hour of a patient’s passing.

  • 2

    Evaluation

Trained coordinators assess the patient's eligibility for eye donation.

  • 3

    Family Discussion

If the patient is not already a registered donor, a coordinator speaks with the family to offer the opportunity to donate and explain the lasting impact of this decision.

  • 4

    Authorization and Recovery

Once authorization is obtained, our team coordinates the ocular tissue recovery—usually at the hospital, but in some cases at a funeral home or medical examiner’s office.

  • 5

    Aftercare

We provide follow-up communication and resources to support donor families in their grief journey.

Donor Education & Registration.

Nearly 120,000 people in the U.S. are awaiting lifesaving organ transplants, and each cornea donor can restore sight to two people. Every person who registers as a donor helps extend that hope.

We encourage hospital staff to:

  • Educate patients and families about the impact of donation.
  • Promote donor registration through their local DMV or online state registry.
  • Sign up at registerme.org.
  • Locate information about each state registry within the Advancing Sight Network: Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee.
  • Share information in the community to foster greater understanding and support.
