Alabama Donor Services Referral Coordinator I—Full-Time (Not location specific)
[Position may be night shift or day shift, some weekend or holiday shifts may be possible]
Starting Pay: $20.50 per hour
Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing initial referral intake and approaching donor families for eye-only authorization for both transplant and research purposes. This role is also responsible for excellent referral documentation and coordinating recoveries within the coverage area.

Core Responsibilities:
• Answer, respond to, and document all incoming donor referral calls in a timely manner.
• Triage referral calls as appropriate for eye potential.
• Determine if the patient is on the Donor Registry and document accordingly.
Registry patients: Complete and document the notification of donor designation with the legally authorized person.
Non-registry patients: Obtain telephone-recorded authorization for donation with the legally responsible person.
• Approach the legally authorized person according to the UAGA hierarchy.If medically suitable, provide them with information and options for eye donation.
• Conduct a sensitive and thorough Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) accurately and in a timely manner.
• Forward the DRAI and any other pertinent information to the designated Recovery Coordinator to coordinate procurement for ocular tissue.
• Communicate with nurses, medical examiners/coroners, and funeral home directors regarding donor logistics within the coverage area.
• Upload proper recordings into approved databases.
• Perform accurate data entry into approved databases.
• Adhere to the approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Answer additional phone calls as needed.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings which may be scheduled outside of regular workdays or shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• An associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of at least one year of call center experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Pharmacology and medical terminology.
• Basic knowledge of patient confidentiality laws.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Willingness to work weekends/evenings to complete tasks.
• Position may require Saturday and/or Sunday work and requires a rotating holiday schedule to be worked.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
• Frequent periods of intense concentration, attention to detail, and accuracy.
• Ability to handle mental and physical strain involved in the use of printed materials and prolonged use of computer screens.
• Moderate manual dexterity for basic keyboarding.
• Long periods of sitting and/or standing may be required.
• Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
