Medical Chart Review Coordinator I—Full-Time—Birmingham, Alabama
[Day Shift]
Starting Pay: $20.50 per hour

Position Summary
This position is responsible for promptly determining donor eligibility across the network on eye-only and shared tissue/bone cases by ensuring donors are not plasma diluted, confirming negative serology results, identifying any contraindications outlined by EBAA or FDA, obtaining consults from physicians or Medical Examiners when necessary, reviewing medical records, verifying authorization and DRAI, and completing the necessary paperwork while adhering to ASN’s policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities:
•  Assist others in answering donor eligibility questions.
•  Help coordinate donor eligibility follow-up.
•  Request donor records, as necessary.
•  Understand different EMRs.
•  Perform accurate and complete data entry.
•  Perform accurate hemodilution calculations.
•  Receive, review, and enter final serology results into approved database.
•  Perform appropriate consultations with physicians and Medical Examiners as needed.
•  Discuss needed chart follow-up with others working on Medical Chart Review.
•  Coordinate and provide follow-up on Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) questionnaires, autopsy reports, and physician and medical records using other staff as needed.
•  Make a final donor eligibility determination in accordance with ASN SOP and EBAA and FDA medical standards for eye-only and tissue/bone donors.
•  Ensure tissue suitability is complete.
•  Perform final overall donor sign off appropriately.
•  Ensure all appropriate information and paperwork is in the chart and placed according to SOPs.
•  Appropriately remove temporary vial/chamber labels and apply permanent label.
•  Appropriately file/store charts in chart room.

Qualifications:
•  An associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
•  Demonstrates knowledge of EBAA and FDA regulations related to eligibility criteria.
•  Basic knowledge of patient confidentiality laws.
•  Demonstrates ability to interface effectively with doctors, nurses, schedulers, and other related personnel and peers.
•  Excellent documentation and assessment skills.
•  Computer literacy and familiarity with computer databases.
•  Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented.
•  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•  Superior interpersonal and public relations ability.
•  Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:
•  Frequent periods of intense concentration, attention to detail, and accuracy.
•  Ability to handle mental and physical strain involved in the use of printed materials and prolonged use of computer screens.
•  Moderate manual dexterity for basic keyboarding.
•  Long periods of sitting and/or standing may be required.
•  Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
